Default Guide - Jailbreak iPhone / iTouch 3.0

Firmware : 3.0
Software : redsn0w
Compatible devices : iTouch 1G, iTouch 2G, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

This guide is for jailbreaking your iPhone 3GS running 3.0. It is being written with the 0.8 release of redsn0w. In the event that redsn0w is updated, you can still use this guide provided there are no major changes to the procedure.

What you need before beginning:

1. 3.0 firmware

*If you have previously updated or restored with 3.0, you can pull the file from one of the following locations:
  • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
  • Vista or 7: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
2. redsn0w 0.8

Notes:
1. After jailbreaking, you must use ultrasn0w to unlock.
2. I always recommend you do a fresh restore before beginning although it's not a requirement.

Step 1
Launch redsn0w 0.8

Step 2
Click Browse to select the correct ipsw file for your device.

*Choose the right firmware that matches your device

*redsn0w will say Processing firmware... followed by IPSW successfully identified.

Step 3
Click Next> and you'll get a Preparing jailbreak data pop-up:

Step 4
Select Install Cydia and/or Install Icy and click Next>:

Step 5
Follow the instructions below to put the phone in Recovery mode

Step 6
Let redsn0w run through it's process:

*redsnow will let you know once it's finished:
