Jailbreak iPhone / iPod Touch 2.2.1 Guide

Follow this guide to jailbreak your 2.2.1 iTouch 1G or iPhone 2G & 3G

Golden rules from the dev team :

If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
# Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update. If you want to use Yellownsn0w you will need to create and restore using a custom .ipsw that will allow you to update safely to 2.2.1 without applying the 02.30.03 baseband update. You’ll then have a 3G iPhone running 2.2.1 with an older baseband version that is still vulnerable to yellowsn0w, following these steps ensures that yellowsn0w will still operate.
# Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
# Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
# At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
# These apps are suitable for the recent 2.2.1 release.
# The Yellowsn0w version has been updated to 0.9.7. Yellowsn0w is available from Cydia or Installer - this version allows compatibility with pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband). Again„ remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly - you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which didn’t upgrade the baseband during the restore/upgrade.

First, Quickpwn does not updates your OS. Meaning if want to run 2.2.1 and are not currently running it, you have to update by plugging into itunes and hitting update.

1. Download iPhone/ iPod Firmware 2.2.1 & QuickPwn 2.2.5 and save them to your desktop.

Firmware Files

3. Extract the downloaded QuickPwn zip or dmg file to your desktop.
4. Fire up QuickPwn and plug in your phone via usb, quickpwn will give you a green checkmark when it detects the phone.
5. Next select Browse and browse over to your desktop where you downloaded the firmware, quickpwn will give you another green checkmark if you selected the correct firmware.
6. Blue Arrow -> Select Cydia & or Installer & Custom Boot logos. Blue Arrow
7. Blue arrows until quickpwn reboots your phone and puts it into recovery
8. Once it is in recovery mode you will be asked to press a key sequence on the phone, just remeber to do this.
- Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds,
- Then release the Power button while continuing holding the Home(round) button until your iPhone is in DFU mode
you will know when this is complete because you should hear a usb connecting sound on your pc or mac and there will be allot of activity showing on the quickpwn screen.
9. Now wait for QuickPWN 2.2.5 Message “The pwnage process appears to have completed successfully. Please wait for your device to reboot in its newly modified state”. and let the phone finish what its doing till it reboots.

I would like to confirm/clarify pls. I bought an iPod Touch 2g, it came with 2.2.1 installed.
CAN I jailbreak it?? Your message about jailbreaking with 2.2.1 says to use PwnageTool, but there's no link to that. I'm not using an iPhone, so there should be no "baseband" issues?? I read here that the "fix" for redsn0w is still "on the way" but somewhere else I read that the iTouch 2g CAN be jailbroken?

I'm one of those extra-careful people "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but I'd love to be able to use some of the apps that Apple doesn't offer in the Appstore.

Help?? Thanks in advance!!

it can be, has not been discussed here but it can be...

download the latest quickpwn from our site and some 2g firmware 2.2.1 if you want to stick with that
